CBS and CNN Stop Advertising E-Cigarettes
In the past few weeks, reports of a mysterious respiratory illness potentially caused by vaping has lead major networks including CBS and CNN to pull e-cigarette advertising from their airways. In a wave of incidents reminiscent of the early days of cigarette-related illnesses, the death toll attributed to e-cigarettes continues to climb. Meanwhile, health regulators have also begun to pull the products from their shelves.
Juul, one of the largest manufacturers of e-cigarettes, recently saw CNN’s parent company WarnerMedia take the decision to stop all future advertising for the company. Similarly CBS has decided it will no longer take e-cigarette advertising money.
Major Health Organizations Warn of Dangers of E-Cigarettes
The CDC, the AMA, and the American Lung Association have all issued warnings to consumers about the risks of e-cigarette use. Investigations are now underway to determine what the connection may be between the mysterious deaths and vaping.
Meanwhile, federal regulators and lawmakers in Congress have opened multiple probes into Juul’s advertising practices, and US health officials have moved to pull flavored e-cigarettes off the market. Foreign regulators are now also taking a closer look at the products to see if they too may curtail distribution.
