NHTSA Announces Major Takata Airbag Recall
This week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a major recall of defective airbags made by Japanese company Takata for car manufacturers including BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota.
Defective airbags spray victims with shrapnell
According to reports, at least 4 people have died and more than 30 people have been seriously injured when air inflators within the airbags ruptured and sprayed passengers with metal shrapnel.
The recall, which some think may become the largest in history, is expected to affect at least 12 million vehicles worldwide, and owners of recalled vehicles have been urged by the federal safety agency to visit a dealership to have the air bags replaced immediately.
